The position was advertised as full time, and so I made plans accordingly. That said, my experience working with ScribeAmerica has been awful. I was completely new to working in medical settings, and I thought the providers and chief scribes were all wonderful, and were excited to assist in the process of learning and loving medicine. But on-site training was short and it felt that I wasn't properly prepared to enter my solo shifts, it was only 5 days. Training is quite extensive in learning about the terminology and how to write a proper HPI which was great. The pay isn't that great, where I was working it was about 11.5/hr, and hearing around, not many employees have stayed for more than a year. If your call-out doesn't fall under these circumstances and you don't appear for your shift, you will be written up with an issued warning. Be aware that they have an ED call-out policy where you must email your chief scribe 24 hours prior to the shift to be deemed as an emergency call-out and it must only be for family or emergent reasons. I made the mistake of not addressing it clearly the first time but when I mentioned it three times afterward, I was told that it is my responsibility in finding other people to cover or trade for my shift. If you are considering this job for this company please understand that you must give your chief scribe your desired schedule or else you will be left with shifts that aren't accommodating to you. I was a part-time ER medical scribe who is also a college student. I was excited to become an ER medical scribe but left with disappointment at how management was handled by this company.
